Groundwire by Acrobits — iPhone or Android Setup

Groundwire by Acrobits is a third-party SIP softphone app that registers to your EMAK Telecom extension. With it installed, you can make and receive calls from your office or home phone number on your mobile — over Wi-Fi or cellular data — so your work caller ID shows up on outgoing calls and you never have to share your personal cell number.

What You Need

  • An EMAK Telecom extension (a phone line on your account).
  • The following credentials, available on the EMAK portal under Accounts → Extensions, or by emailing [email protected]:
    • Username: your extension number
    • Password: your extension password
    • Domain: your company domain (for example customer.emaktalk.com)
  • A one-time purchase of Groundwire on the App Store or Play Store (price set by Acrobits).

Keep your extension password private — you are responsible for any long-distance charges placed from your account.

Step 1: Install Groundwire

Groundwire FAQ

Why use Groundwire instead of EMAK’s own softphone?

Groundwire is a popular alternative for users who already have it or who prefer its interface. EMAK Telecom also offers its own mobile softphone — see Bria mobile app for the EMAK-recommended option, or desktop softphone guides for laptop and desktop use.

The account stays red or fails to register. What now?

Most often the issue is the password — re-enter it carefully (Groundwire is case-sensitive and autocorrect can sneak in spaces or capital letters). Also confirm the domain ends with .emaktalk.com and matches your company’s identifier exactly. If it still fails, your network may be blocking SIP — see EMAK firewall whitelist.

Why does iPhone need TCP and Expires=240, but Android does not?

iOS aggressively suspends background apps. Switching to TCP and shortening the SIP registration expiry to 240 seconds keeps the registration current so push-notification-based incoming calls work reliably. Android does not suspend the same way, so the defaults work.

Calls connect but only one side hears audio.

This is almost always a microphone permission issue (on iPhone) or a NAT/firewall issue. Verify Groundwire has microphone permission, then see firewall whitelist.

Will Groundwire ring when my phone is locked?

Yes — on iPhone after you allow notifications, and on Android with default settings. Some Android battery savers may need an exception for Groundwire to allow background activity.

Can I have my desk phone and Groundwire ring at the same time?

Yes — your administrator can configure your extension to ring multiple devices simultaneously. See Follow Me for end-user options.
