How to Use Call Intercept and Call Pickup on EMAK Telecom
Call intercept (also called call pickup) lets you answer an incoming call that is ringing on someone else’s extension — useful when a colleague is away from their desk or busy on another line. EMAK Telecom supports two ways to intercept a call: pressing a BLF key on your phone, or dialling a star code.
Pick Up With a BLF Key
The fastest way to intercept a ringing call is to press a BLF key on your phone that monitors the ringing extension.
- When an incoming call is ringing on another extension, the BLF key for that extension flashes red.
- Press the flashing BLF key to pick up the call.
If you do not have BLF keys configured yet, see Adding BLF and Speed-Dial Keys or contact EMAK Telecom support and we will set them up for you.
Pick Up With a Star Code
You can also intercept a call by dialling ** followed by the extension number that is ringing.
For example, if a call is ringing on extension 101, dial **101 to pick up that call. This is especially useful on phones with limited functionality or no BLF keys.
Call Intercept FAQ
Why isn’t a BLF key flashing when a call rings?
The BLF key only flashes for extensions that are explicitly configured on your phone. If your colleague’s extension is not on a BLF key, the key will never flash. Add a BLF key for them — see Adding BLF and Speed-Dial Keys.
Can I intercept any extension on the phone system?
By default yes — any user can intercept any extension by dialling **(ext#) or pressing a BLF key. If you need to restrict pickup to specific groups (for example, only sales agents can pick up sales line calls), contact EMAK Telecom support and we will configure pickup groups for your account.
What is the difference between intercept and call park?
Intercept picks up a call that is currently ringing on another extension. Call parking places an active call into a “parking spot” that any extension can retrieve. Use intercept for calls in their initial ringing state; use parking when the call has already been answered and you need to transfer it to whoever is available.
Does intercept work on all phone models?
Yes. The **(ext#) star code works on every EMAK Telecom phone, including softphones, mobile apps, and basic models without BLF keys.
