How to Set Up a Headset on the EMAK Softphone
If you have a USB or Bluetooth headset, you can use it with the EMAK Telecom softphone for hands-free calling. This guide shows how to pick your headset as the speaker, microphone, and ringer in the softphone, and how to make sure Windows is letting the app access the microphone.
Step 1: Open Softphone Settings
Click Settings in the EMAK softphone.

Step 2: Choose Your Headset for Speaker and Microphone
In Settings, open the drop-down menus under Speaker and Microphone and pick your headset for both.

Step 3: Optional — Ring on the Headset
Under Ring Device, also pick your headset if you want incoming calls to ring through the headset itself. Otherwise, the call will only ring through your computer’s default audio device, and you will only hear it once you answer.
Step 4: Allow Microphone Access in Windows
Windows blocks microphone access by default for some apps. Make sure the EMAK softphone is allowed:
- Open Windows Settings.
- Type Microphone in the search bar.
- Open Choose which apps can access your microphone.

Make sure Allow apps to access your microphone is turned on.

Also make sure Allow desktop apps to access your microphone is turned on. The EMAK softphone is a desktop app, so this toggle must also be on.

You are now ready to take calls on the EMAK softphone with your headset.
Softphone Headset FAQ
I selected my headset but the audio still goes to my laptop speakers — why?
The softphone has separate drop-downs for Speaker, Microphone, and Ring Device. Make sure all three point to your headset. If only the speaker is set, your microphone audio may still come from the laptop’s built-in mic.
The other side cannot hear me — what should I check?
First, check that the Microphone drop-down points to your headset, not the laptop’s built-in mic. Second, verify that Allow apps to access your microphone and Allow desktop apps to access your microphone are both on in Windows. Third, ensure the headset is not physically muted (most have a mute button on the cable).
Why should I set the Ring Device to my headset?
If the Ring Device is set to your computer’s default speakers, you may not hear incoming calls when your headset is plugged in but the laptop is closed or the speakers are far from you. Setting Ring Device to the headset ensures you always hear the ring through the headset you are wearing.
Does this guide work for the Mac softphone too?
The same general principle applies — pick your headset under Speaker / Microphone in the Mac softphone settings — but the macOS privacy settings are different. On macOS, allow microphone access for the EMAK app under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
