How to Transfer a Call on a Yealink Phone

Yealink desk phones support three ways to transfer a call: a blind transfer (no consultation), a semi-attended transfer (transfer while the destination is ringing), and an attended transfer (consult before completing). This guide covers all three on standard Yealink desk phones, plus how to transfer calls on Yealink cordless phones.

Transfer Types at a Glance

  • Blind transfer — transfer the call directly without consulting the destination. The caller is sent immediately to the destination, whether or not it is answered.
  • Semi-attended transfer — start dialling the destination, then complete the transfer while the destination is still ringing.
  • Attended (consultative) transfer — call the destination first, speak with them, and then complete the transfer once they confirm they are ready.

Blind Transfer on a Yealink Desk Phone

  1. During an active call, press the Yealink Transfer key Transfer key, or press the Transfer soft key.
  2. Enter the number you want to transfer the call to, or pick a contact:
    • Press Directory > Local Directory and search for a contact.
    • Press Directory > History and select an entry with the up/down arrows.
    • Press Directory > Remote Phone Book and pick a contact (the remote phone book must be configured in advance).

Semi-Attended Transfer

A semi-attended transfer lets you complete the transfer once the destination begins ringing.

  2. Enter the destination number, or pick a contact from Directory > Local Directory, History, or Remote Phone Book.
  3. Press OK key OK or Send key Send to dial out.
  4. When you hear ringback (the destination is ringing), press the Yealink Transfer key Transfer key or the Transfer soft key to complete the transfer. You can also complete by hanging up the handset.

Attended (Consultative) Transfer

Use an attended transfer when you need to talk to the destination before completing the transfer — for example, to introduce the caller.

  1. During the call, press the Yealink Transfer key Transfer key or the Transfer soft key.
  2. Enter the destination number, or pick a contact from Directory > Local Directory, History, or Remote Phone Book.
  3. Press OK key OK or Send key Send to dial out.
  4. Wait for the other party to answer, speak with them, then press the Yealink Transfer key Transfer key or the Transfer soft key to complete the transfer. If you are using a handset, you can also complete by hanging up.

To cancel the transfer before it completes, press the Cancel soft key.

Yealink Call Transfer FAQ

Which transfer type should I use?

Use a blind transfer when you trust that the destination is the right person and you do not need to introduce the caller. Use an attended transfer when you want to confirm with the destination before passing the call (for example, to make sure they are at their desk and ready). Use a semi-attended transfer when the destination is reliable but you want to wait long enough to be sure the call is ringing.

What happens to the caller while I am consulting on an attended transfer?

The caller is automatically placed on hold and hears your music on hold while you talk to the destination. The caller cannot hear your consultation conversation.

How do I cancel a transfer if the destination doesn’t pick up?

Press the Cancel soft key (or the EndCall soft key on some firmware versions) before completing the transfer. You will return to the original caller.

Why does the transfer fail with “Forbidden” or “Not Allowed”?

Some advanced transfer types — like external-to-external transfers — may be blocked on your account for fraud prevention. Contact EMAK Telecom support if you need this enabled.
