How to Use Call Paging on EMAK Telecom

Call paging is one-way audio that lets you speak through the speakerphone of one or more phones at the same time to make an announcement. It is great for office-wide pages (“Bob, line one”), warehouse and factory shop-floor announcements, or summoning someone to the front desk.

You can also page over dedicated paging speakers — EMAK Telecom sells a wide range of IP paging speakers for ceiling and wall mounting, plus intercom systems for waiting rooms, warehouses, and similar spaces.

Three Ways to Page

  1. Press a preconfigured paging key on your phone (the easiest method).
  2. Page a single phone manually with *8 + extension.
  3. Dial a paging group directly.

Security and Setup

  • By default, the *8 manual paging feature is protected by a random PIN to prevent abuse.
  • Paging can be restricted so that only certain extensions are allowed to page.
  • The easiest way to page is from a preconfigured paging key on your phone.
  • Contact EMAK Telecom support to set or change your paging PIN, configure paging groups, or activate paging on your account.

Method 1: Use a Preconfigured Paging Key

If your account has paging speakers or intercoms installed, your desk phone will usually have a paging key already programmed as a speed-dial.

  1. Pick up the handset.
  2. Press the key labelled Paging or Page.
  3. You will hear an audible tone — that signals you can speak.
  4. Make your announcement, then hang up to end the page.

Method 2: Page a Single Phone Manually

To page a specific extension by hand, dial *8 followed by the extension number. For example, to page extension 110, dial *8110.

Note: You can only page other desk phones. You cannot page a mobile or softphone user — they need to be dialled directly.

Method 3: Dial a Paging Group

Paging groups let you page several extensions or speakers at once with a single dial code.

By default, the first paging group is at *724 (which spells *PAG on the keypad). Additional paging groups can be configured with custom codes — contact EMAK Telecom support to set up additional groups for specific zones (warehouse, sales floor, lunchroom, and so on).

Call Paging FAQ

Can the people I page talk back?

No. Standard paging is one-way audio — the people you page can hear you, but they cannot talk back. Use the intercom feature or place a regular call if you need two-way conversation.

What is the difference between *8 and a paging group?

*8 + extension pages a single specific phone. A paging group is a saved list of phones (for example, every phone in the warehouse) that you can page at once with a short code like *724. Use *8 for one-off pages, and a paging group when you regularly need to address the same set of phones.

Why does paging ask for a PIN?

Manual *8 paging is PIN-protected by default to stop unauthorized announcements. Contact EMAK Telecom support to set a custom PIN or to remove the PIN for trusted users.

Can I page mobile phones or softphones?

Paging only works on desk phones connected to your EMAK Telecom phone system. Mobile apps and softphones cannot be paged — they need a regular incoming call instead.
