How to Install the EMAK Softphone on Mac

The EMAK desktop softphone lets you make and receive calls on your Mac using your EMAK Telecom extension. This guide walks through downloading the installer, signing in with your extension credentials, and placing your first call.
Before You Start
Before you install the softphone, make sure you have:
- A Mac running a current version of macOS.
- A headset with a microphone. We do not recommend using your built-in or external speakers, because they cause echo and poor audio quality on calls.
- Your extension number, your company’s domain name, and your extension password.
If you do not know your password, you can find it in the EMAK portal under Accounts > Extensions > Password. If your company has not given you portal access, contact your manager or our support team to get your credentials.
Step 1: Download the Mac Softphone
Download the installer to your Mac:

Open the downloaded .pkg file and follow the macOS installer prompts to finish installing the application.
Step 2: Open the Application
Launch the softphone. You will see the welcome screen.

Click Continue as Free User. Do not install in-app updates — the version provided in the EMAK installer is the build that we test and support with our SIP servers.
Step 3: Sign In with Your Extension
On the next screen, sign in with your EMAK extension credentials.

Enter your username in the following format:
[extension]@[your-domain].emaktalk.com:5090
For example: [email protected]:5090
Enter your extension password, then click Login.
Step 4: Confirm Your Account Settings
On the account settings page, leave the values as entered and click Next.

On the following screen, click Skip.

Step 5: Select SIP TCP as the Transport
On the transport screen, make sure that SIP TCP is selected, then click Next.

Step 6: Finish the Setup
When you are happy with your settings, click the X button to close the wizard and finish signing in to your account.

Place Your First Call
You are now ready to start making calls from your Mac. To place a call, type the number into the search bar at the top of the application and press Enter.

Why should I click “Continue as Free User”?
The EMAK softphone uses the free tier of the underlying application. You do not need a paid licence to register your EMAK extension and place calls.
Why should I skip the in-app updates?
The installer that EMAK provides is the version we have tested with our SIP servers. Newer in-app updates may introduce changes that affect call quality or compatibility, so we recommend keeping the supplied version unless our support team tells you otherwise.
Where do I find my extension password?
Sign in to the EMAK portal and open Accounts > Extensions > Password. If you do not have portal access, contact your administrator or EMAK Telecom support.
Why do I need a headset?
Using a headset prevents the echo and feedback that occur when your Mac’s microphone picks up sound from its speakers. A headset gives you the cleanest call quality and is what we recommend for any softphone.
