How to Use Call Forwarding

Call forwarding sends incoming calls to your EMAK Telecom extension to another extension or to any external phone number. You can set it up in two ways: directly from your EMAK phone with star codes, or from the EMAK Telecom phone portal where you have more advanced control.

Set Call Forwarding from Your EMAK Phone

Star codes are the fastest way to turn call forwarding on and off from any EMAK Telecom phone.

Enable Call Forwarding

  1. Dial *72 followed by the destination phone number — for example, *725145551234.
  2. Listen for the message confirming that call forwarding has been set.

Disable Call Forwarding

  1. Dial *73.
  2. Listen for the message confirming that call forwarding has been cancelled.

If you would like a one-touch button for call forwarding, contact EMAK Telecom support. We can program *72 and *73 onto line keys on your phone so you can enable and disable forwarding with a single button press.

Set Call Forwarding in the EMAK Phone Portal

The phone portal gives you four conditional forwarding options for your extension as well as the Follow Me feature.

Before you start: You will need to log in to the EMAK phone portal with your username and password. If you do not have credentials, call us at (514) 400-0226 and a member of the EMAK Telecom customer success team will help you.

Step 3: Choose a Forwarding Option

You have four conditional forwarding options:

  1. Call Forward — permanent forward. When enabled, every incoming call goes to this number.
  2. On Busy — forwards calls to this number whenever your extension is busy on another call.
  3. No Answer — forwards calls if you reject the call, are on Do Not Disturb, or do not answer.
  4. Not Registered — forwards calls when your phone is offline (unplugged, no power, or no internet).

Follow Me

The Follow Me option lets you ring additional numbers — typically your cellphone — at the same time as your extension, so you can take calls when you are out of the office.

Important: If you use Follow Me, make sure you also add your extension number to the list of numbers to ring. If you do not add your extension number, your desk phone will not ring at all.

Call Forwarding FAQ

What is the difference between *72 forwarding and the four portal options?

Dialling *72 sets a single permanent forward — every call goes to the destination until you dial *73. The portal lets you set conditional forwards, so calls only forward when you are busy, do not answer, or your phone is offline. Use *72 for quick changes; use the portal when you want different rules for different situations.

Can I forward calls to an external number like my cellphone?

Yes. Both star codes and the portal let you forward to any phone number — extensions inside your company or external numbers. Long-distance charges apply to forwarded calls just like any other outbound call from your extension.

Why doesn’t my desk phone ring when I use Follow Me?

Follow Me only rings the numbers in its list. If you forget to include your extension number, your desk phone is excluded from the ring group. Edit Follow Me and add your extension number alongside your cellphone or other destinations.

Can EMAK put a call forwarding shortcut on my phone?

Yes. Contact EMAK Telecom support and we will program *72 and *73 onto your phone’s line keys, so you can toggle forwarding with a single button.
