What to Do if Someone Is Calling People Using Your Phone Number

If people are receiving calls that appear to come from your phone number, contact EMAK Telecom support first. Our anti-fraud team will verify whether the calls originated from our system.

If the Calls Originated from Your Phone System

If the calls originated from your phone system, EMAK Telecom will immediately take steps to identify and block unauthorized access to your phone system.

If the Calls Did Not Originate from Your Phone System

If the calls did not originate from your phone system, your number was likely used in caller ID spoofing. Caller ID spoofing occurs when someone places calls while displaying a caller ID number that does not belong to them.

Unfortunately, spoofing has become more common across carriers, including cellular and fixed landline services. Protecting your account is a priority, and EMAK Telecom will help confirm whether your system is involved.

Report Caller ID Spoofing

The CRTC provides guidance on caller ID spoofing and scam protection at https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/phone/telemarketing/identit.htm.

You can also report the incident to your local police service or to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre is operated jointly by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Ontario Provincial Police, and the Competition Bureau.

Blocking Spam Calls

EMAK Telecom offers options for blocking incoming spam callers through the portal. However, if someone is using your phone number as a spoofed caller ID, there may not be a way to prevent those callers from displaying your number at this time.

In that situation, report the calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. EMAK Telecom will continue working with the CRTC on ways to investigate scammers and reduce this type of activity.
