How to Create a Recording on the EMAK Server

You can record an audio prompt for your auto attendant menu or call center directly from your EMAK Telecom phone — no audio software or special equipment required. Once you have recorded the prompt, contact EMAK Telecom support and we will apply it to your menu.

Note: These instructions are for menu and queue prompts. To record your personal voicemail greeting, see How to Set Up Voicemail instead.

Record the Prompt

  1. From any EMAK Telecom phone, dial *732 and wait for the voice prompt.
  2. When prompted, enter an ID for your recording. The ID can be any number from 1 to 9999. To overwrite an existing recording, dial back later and choose the same ID.
  3. After you hear “Recording Started”, start talking.
  4. When you are finished, press the pound (#) key to stop the recording.
  5. Press 1 to accept the recording (then hang up), or press 2 to start over.

Apply the Recording to Your Menu

Once you have an accepted recording, contact EMAK Telecom support so we can apply it to the right menu, queue, or auto attendant. You can:

When you contact us, please include the recording ID you used so we can apply the correct file. Tell us where you would like the recording used (for example: “Apply recording 42 to the main IVR greeting”) and we will take care of it.

Recording Tips

  • Pick a quiet room. The handset microphone will pick up keyboard noise, fans, and hallway chatter. A small office or meeting room with the door closed works well.
  • Write a script. Even a one-line greeting sounds more polished when read from a script than when improvised. Keep menu prompts short — under 30 seconds when possible.
  • Speak at a steady pace. Slow down a touch — callers will appreciate the clarity.
  • Re-record without losing the slot. If you are not happy with the take, press 2 at the end to start over, or simply dial *732 again with the same ID to overwrite the existing recording.

Recording FAQ

What range of recording IDs can I use?

Any number from 1 to 9999. We recommend keeping a list of which IDs you have used and what they contain — for example, “1 = main greeting”, “2 = after-hours”, “3 = closed for holidays” — so it is easy to remember which ID to overwrite when you make changes.

Can I upload a professionally produced audio file instead?

Yes. If you have a studio-recorded MP3 or WAV file, email it to [email protected], tell us where you want it applied, and we will load it into your account. You do not need to use *732 if you already have a finished file.

How long can the recording be?

The system will let you record well past the length of any reasonable phone prompt. For best caller experience, keep menu greetings short — under 30 seconds for the main greeting, and a few seconds per option when listing menu choices.

Can I delete an old recording?

Recording IDs are overwritten by simply re-recording on the same ID. If you want a recording fully removed from the server, contact EMAK Telecom support and we will delete it for you.
