How to Use Follow Me on EMAK Telecom

Follow Me lets you take incoming business calls whether you are at your desk, at home, or on the road. Unlike a simple call forward, Follow Me rings several destinations at once or in sequence — for example, your desk phone, your softphone, and your cell — so the call reaches you wherever you are.

How Follow Me Works

You build a list of phone numbers that should ring when someone calls your extension. The system rings the numbers in the list either simultaneously or with a delay between them. The first device you answer takes the call.

Important: Always include your extension number in the Follow Me list. If you forget to include it, your desk phone will not ring at all when calls come in.

Set Up Follow Me in the EMAK Phone Portal

Before you start: Sign in to the EMAK phone portal with your username and password. If you do not have credentials, call us at (514) 400-0226 and a member of the EMAK Telecom customer success team will help you.

Step 1: Open Call Forwarding

Once signed in, click Apps > Call Forwarding.

Step 2: Open Your Extension

Click your extension’s row in the list to open its Follow Me settings.

Step 3: Add Your Follow Me Numbers

In the Follow Me section, add every number you want to ring — typically your desk extension and your cellphone. You can ring all numbers at the same time, or set a delay so a number only rings after a few seconds.

Use Confirm Prompt for External Numbers

The Confirm Prompt option is useful when one of your Follow Me destinations is an external number (like your cellphone) that has its own voicemail.

When Confirm Prompt is enabled, the system asks the answering party to press 1 to accept or 2 to reject the call. This prevents an unanswered call from being silently caught by the external voicemail (your cell carrier’s voicemail) instead of going back to your EMAK voicemail. The end result: business calls always end up in your EMAK voicemail box, where you actually want them.

Toggle Follow Me On and Off

Once Follow Me is configured in the portal, you can turn it on and off from your phone by dialling *21. Each press of *21 toggles the feature.

What is the difference between Follow Me and Call Forwarding?

Call Forwarding sends every call to a single destination — for example, your cellphone — so your desk phone never rings. Follow Me lets you ring several destinations at once (or in sequence). The first device you answer takes the call, and your desk phone keeps ringing alongside the other destinations.

Why isn’t my desk phone ringing with Follow Me on?

Make sure your extension number is in the Follow Me list. Follow Me only rings the numbers you add — if your extension is not in the list, your desk phone is excluded from the ring group.

Why am I asked to “press 1” when my cellphone rings?

That is the Confirm Prompt feature working as designed. It asks you to confirm the call so that an unanswered ring does not get swallowed by your cell carrier’s voicemail. Press 1 to take the call, or 2 to reject it and let it return to your EMAK voicemail.

Can EMAK put a Follow Me toggle button on my phone?

Yes. Contact EMAK Telecom support and we will program *21 onto a line key so you can turn Follow Me on and off with one button press.
